When a screenplay is named “The Vagina Monologues”, please don’t expect me to piss myself over how inclusive you are because you added one, optional narrative about a trans woman.
I have never been more sincere in my life when I say, I do not give a fuck, I hate the shit out of The Vagina Monologues.
no1curr about your transmisogynistic shit and vulva worship

If I was in a position to write a trans monologue, it’d be about how trans bodies come in all sorts of shapes. It’d be about how living in the trans community means learning the beauty of being among men who have vaginas and among women who don’t. It’d be about how womanhood isn’t, after all, just about the vagina. It’d be about how we are fucking awesome, fierce and strong and y’all who don’t get it can just piddle off now like the warm piss you are. It’d be about how we put up with outrageous BS just so we can live. And it would be about taking other feminists to task for being in the forefront of the outrageous BS we have to put up with.

Of course it’d never be accepted.

No, it’d never be accepted but I wish it could be performed.

I think the vagina monologues needs to figure itself out.

Either it’s about women- and needs to include ALL women of ALL bodies. It needs to include trans women who “don’t pass”, women who love their penises and those who aren’t sure how to feel, women who tenderly care for their beard, all sorts. And this, quite frankly, is what the Vagina Monologues SHOULD be because we’ve got way too many things that pretend to be “women only” then shun trans women for cafab trans folk.

But if it is about vaginas, then first we need better portrayals of trans women- I’m sick of trans people being reduced to hate crimes and bigotry. It needs to include trans men, including those who ‘pass’ completely, talking about their love of their male vagina and genderqueer, genderfuck, genderless, genderful non-binary people of all presentations being presented as unquestionably their gender.

Either way, everything equating “woman” with “vagina” needs to be fixed or scrapped entirely.

That’s such a good point [well, all the commentary is great, but particularly the one directly above]. They really do need to decide if it’s about bodies (specifically vulvas/vaginas) and all the people with said body part, or if it’s about women regardless of body parts. Is it about women being empowered or people’s relationships with their bodies no matter their gender identity? Having it both ways is just too problematic.
