An update from the WMF

Remember when we all pitched in to help JM, a 21-year-old cancer survivor, pay for her abortion? I got this email from the WMF today:

Dear Jessica,Thank you for your donation of $25.00 in support of JM, the woman with multiple health issues who needed to have her procedure at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. We deeply appreciate your generosity.

Because of your support, Women’s Medical Fund was able to raise the funds needed to close her financial gap and enable her to safely terminate her pregnancy. The folks at HUP report that she is doing well and asked us to share JM’s thanks:

I really thought that I wasn’t going to be able to have this abortion. Even though I have so many medical problems…it just didn’t seem like it was going to be possible. I couldn’t find a clinic or hospital in NJ to see me. When you called me back to tell me that people cared enough to donate I cried. I mean, these people don’t even know me. Now I can take care of myself and finish school. I hope one day I am healthy enough to have a baby- when I am ready. In the meantime, the clinic gave me a free IUD, so I’m good!
